   Generally speaking the history of ancient Egypt in the east, the history of ancient Libya in the middle the history  of egypt in the east and the histories of numidia and Mauretania in the west comprise the history of north Africa during the ancient era (8th century BC 5th century AD). Fallowing Carthage's defeat , the Roman republic created the province of Africa in 16 BC ,Eventually , the Roman Empire conquered the whole Mediterranean coast of Africa annexing Egypt , crete  and cyrenica in 20 BC, and Mauretania .

Phoenicia


    Orginaling in the eastern Mediterranean and West of the Feritille crescent phoenicia from ancient Greek  phoinike meaning either "country of purple" or land of palm trees  was an ancient semitic thalass ocratic society .
It is colonies eventually spread to the Atlantic ocean  ,but it originally encompassed the coastal strip of what is now Lebanon , Pelestine, Syria, and south west turkey . Between 1500BC , the civilization expanded over the mediterranean.
 

Ancient Carthage

   Carthage, also known as the "new city" , was a Phoenician city-state that later expanded to become the Carthaginian Empire in the third to seventh centuries BC. The empire included much of North Africa, a sizable portion of the Iberian coast, and the western Mediterranean islands.

    In 814 BC, Carthage was founded. At the end of the third century BC, Carthage, which had been a vassal of the Phoenician kingdom of Tyre, attained political hegemony over other Phoenician towns throughout the western Mediterranean after gaining independence in 650 BC. When the city was at its most well-known, it was a significant hub for trade, with trading posts spread out around the area. Carthage's hostile relations with the Greeks of Sicily and the Roman Republic for a significant portion of its history resulted in a string of military wars known as the
